Guest Speaker John Berglund – Why it’s a good time to be in the Bowling Industry.

Integers are coming together (BPAA, USBC, Military, IPBSIA, BWAA, PBA)

Exciting new programs – youth, pro shop, coaching

Questions and Answers:

Bob Cosgrove – Do you feel that BPAA has done a good job at diversity?

A – No, not in our best interest.  We’re not in touch. The problem for BPAA is you must be on a state board before BPAA.  Not much to recruit from – most don’t want to be a part yet.

Jim Goodwin – Tell us how a Skills Center works

A – The center pays a fee and must have a teaching professional.  BPAA will furnish branding and promotions.

Paul Kreins – Reason?

A – We need to educate, provide lessons and scientific data to bowlers.  Bowlers might buy merchandise or ask for lessons.  BPAA will structure program.

Paul Kreins additional info – Skill Centers will be pro-active.  Go to lanes and interact with casual bowlers offering 3 minute assistance.  Idea to develop casual to frequent casual to advanced or professional bowlers.

Beth Standlee – Isn’t personality very important?

A – Problem is lack of # to draw from with personality.

Paul adds – Skilled people may have many aspects (drilling or coaching) personality is not always there.

John – Credibility is most important and most challenging.  Will start testing in some centers in August.

You can call Kelly Betters for information.

Steve James – When will BPAA and USBC conventions unite?

A – Not sure.  It was shot down by the delegates at the USBC convention this year.  We are working hard to make it happen.  Hopefully will happen soon.

Jim Goodwin thanked John Berglund for providing the meeting room and refreshments and support of SBWA.

Adjourned – 3:15 pm
